9 World Maker Faire makers not to miss

-August 29, 2014

Thousands of makers are about to descend upon Queens, NY, for the fifth annual World Maker Faire at the NY Hall of Science, September 20 and 21, 2014.

If you haven’t been to a Maker Faire before, the events are these explosions of creativity where engineers, artists, makers, and the like come together to share their designs, devices, and learning.
In the following pages, we’ve highlighted a few of the makers who will be at the event. Needless to say, these are a small sampling of the makers and projects to be showcased.

By the way, EDN is planning an informal meet-up at the event. More details on that coming soon.

And if you can’t make it to the Faire, no worries. We’ll be tweeting from the grounds and will have the highlights on EDN’s DIY Design Center the following week.

Ananya Cleetus lends a hand

Before she graduated high school, her resume included work with Microsoft, Carnegie Mellon University, and the National Center for Women and Information Technology, just to name a few. Oh, and she was invited to the recent White House Maker Fair.

Meet Ananya Cleetus and be sure to shake the 3D-printed robotic prosthetic hand she developed for leprosy victims using InMoov CAD files and Arduino.

This exceptional young maker is also CEO and co-founder of Magikstra, a social media network aiming to help mentors and mentees to connect.
